Spooky and Weird Stuff in Old New Mexico

They are the things you do not quite see out of the corner of your eye or that sound you wake up to at night that was obviously in your dream. To you they are mere superstitious tales and stories; to them you are dinner…"

Slenderman

The Slender Man is a paranormal figure said to have been in existence for centuries.  He looks like a man with extremely long, slender arms and legs and appears to have 4 to 8 long, black tentacles that protrude from his back. His face is pale and slightly ghostly and almost appears to have been wrapped in a type of gauze or cloth. His face looks different to each person, if it is seen at all. He is seen mostly at night peering into open windows and walks out in front of lone travellers on secluded roads. His main intentions appear to be kidnapping children though he can also force his would be victims to offer other children to him as a sacrifice to spare them his attentions.  

Taklishim

Taklishim, grey  one, is mythical wanderer character from post-fall legends. When the black rain’s fell after the “sun came to earth’ a foolish Apache refused to seek shelter and was bathed in the poison that was spread in the air. He fell ill but did not die as his body healed itself and he has not aged a day since but Taklishim    is cursed to wander the land.

Body Stealers and Soul Demons

There are tales of demons possessing the physical bodies of folks and using them like cheap suits. Some say they are creatures from hell while others say they are pre-fall scientists that steal the bodies of others to continue living. Symptoms are meant to be occasional fits, mental seizures and the tell-tale burn marks behind the ears. Rumours are that a whole town of body stealers was recently destroyed by the wrath of god in a pillar of fire and smoke due the preaching of Jesus inspired pastor. Still they are said to be others within us masquerading as normal folks. While some even say that Santa Obama himself lives on as his soul possess the weak before consuming them and moving on.

The Hollowman Ghosts

West of Alamogordo In the    desert of the Tularosa Basin lies the ruins of an old pre-fall airfield base. It is said that once pilotless planes flew from here that were controlled by the Hollowmen till they turned on their own people and swept down on them from above. The ruins are haunted by the ghosts of the Hollowmen who abduct or kill intruders who trespass on  their graves.  

La Mala Hora  

La Mala  Hora, The evil hour,  has  the  face of a demon, glowing red eyes, and sharp, pointed teeth.  She appears in country crossroads after dark, and she is only seen by  those travelling alone. Some say she is a dangerous demon who enjoys terrorizing humans by paralyzing them and tor turning them to insanity.  Other legends describe  La Mala  Hora  as an omen of death and that if you see her, then someone in your life will die very soon. 

Sunspot

High in the Sacramento Mountains overlooking the Tularosa Basin   to the west is the Sunspot surrounded by dense pines trees and steep peaks. It was once an observatory where the very sun itself was studied and is of great spiritual significance to nature worshippers who have  gathered here many times over the years. A small temple is said to exist with a handful of dedicated staff.
