It is said that millions of folk lived in Dallas before the Fall and that it was a rich and luxurious city of unimaginable wealth. It is rumoured that it even had its own television shows and movies and that it was famed across all of the old world. Sadly all that changed with the apocalypse. We know that the old Texas Government tried to make it in to a fortress to resist events and that it was a centre of hope and resistance that overflowed with those seeking shelter. It was a major logistics hub and was full with supplies and equipment and then everyone just died. No one really knows if it was a plague, poisons or pestilence but it is recorded that it became one large open air burial pit that was fearfully shunned.
As time passed brave survivors returned to explore the Dallas ruins in hope of finding old world salvage and wealth but they never returned. Even braver souls followed on and even they failed to return. Finally after more than a few years of mystery a fully equipped and heavily armed expedition entered and then fought its way out. Dallas was jam packed full of crazies that had been breeding and preying on all those brave folks that had gone in to the ruins. It was indeed full of old world relics and treasures but was also full of savage degenerated cannibals that like nothing more than a good fight followed by a good feast.
Several attempts were made to subdue the crazies but all were defeated by the sheer ferocity of the Dallas ruin dwellers. Time and again expeditions would stagger out badly mauled with little booty to show. Even the Texican Republic was unprepared to pay the butcher's bill to conquer Dallas and quarantined it as a no-go zone but the lure of the old world relics always attracted the foolhardy. Over time families settled outside the ruins and would launch small stealthy retrieval missions which fared better than larger heavily armed ones. These became the Reclaimer Clans that salvaged treasurers from Dallas but always at price. In exchange for licenses to sell on their wealth they agreed to guard the ruins to stop raids by the crazies. The Dallas ruins were declared a free-fire zone in which the law held no rite and the ruins dwellers fair game.
Today the Reclaimer Clans are strong and wealthy from their plundering of Dallas but the dwellers are still very much in control. There are still relics to claim and still headstrong groups who try their luck at salvage; with mostly little success. Fugitives, who are desperate enough, make the ruins their homes as well and the crazies still breed like rabbits and fight like rabid animals.
