Fables, Stories and the Others

There are many many rumours and stories across the length and breadth of North America of mysterious ‘Others’. An Unidentified flying object shadowing a Dakota Co-operative’s blimp on a routine recon mission over the ruins of Chicago before flying of a high speed to the north. There are tales of long buried bunkers from beyond the collapse where the descendants or indeed cryo-frozen remains of the old elites survive. Reports of the contrails of high altitude observation aircraft are common even though none are known to exist in the arsenals of the new states. Most common of all are tales of mutants and devolved folk living in the hills, mountains, valleys, ruins and pretty much anywhere but where you are.

Then supernatural tales of the ‘Burning Fields’ of Arizona where the dead stalk the lands or of the Demons of the Cincinnati who fly through the night hunting the sinful and unrepentant. The famed King of Arkansas with his amazon court and of New-Gomorrah in the east where all matter of wickedness is available but at the cost of your immortal soul.

Then there are tales of contact with mysterious foreigners. A submarine allegedly crewed by Arabs surfaced on Lake Marion in the Carolinas and a tall sailing ship was reputedly seen of the coast of the Virginias flying an old English flag only to disappear in to the mists. There are claims of a Mexican Empire south of the Big River that forms the border of the Texican Republic.

Most are dismissed as fanciful rumours but then again someone always knows someone who saw something.
