The Texican Republic
"In the southern part of Texas in the town of San Antone
There's a fortress all in ruins that the weeds have overgrown
You may look in vain for crosses and you'll never see a-one
But sometimes between the setting and the rising of the sun
You can hear a ghostly bugle as the men go marching by
You can hear them as they answer to that roll call in the sky."
Marty Robbins - Ballad Of The Alamo

What the Texican believes,
"A corrupt and decaying world lead to its own destruction. When Generalissimo Santa Obama led his legions against Texas they overran the couragous defenders of the Alamo, the brave one hundred stand tall Texicans under President-General John Wayne-Bobbitt. Their sacrifice shattered the old corrupt regime and ushered in the collapse. Brave Texicans fought valiantly in defense of their homeland and though many fell many more rose to the challenge and took their place. A Thousand Alamos took place across the lone star state but a thousand more victories were won till today the Texican Republic finally stands tall."
The Land of a Thousand Alamos
The Texican Republic is an oligarchy based around the extended family structure. These large composite families survived the collapse and were the basis for the future Republic. Famous families are the McQuades of Lonewolf or the Ewings of Southfork but there are many and not all are of equal prestige or influence. A typical Texican will have his Christian names and then his extended family followed by his smaller immediate family name, for example Nathan Joshua (Chrisitan Names) McLintock-Brittles (Extended family and then immediate family names).
The archetypal Texican values honesty, bravery and loyalty while despising the lily livered scheming nature of those not blessed to be born in Texas. A Texican should walk tall and shot straight. Sadly he is often intolerant and dismissive of others and may be overconfident in his own abilities. Texican society is very paternal and sadly also misogynist with 'Texas Roses' expected to look after the homestead while the menfolk do the fighting.
Lastly the traditional enemy of the Texican has sadly always been the Latinos though prejudice against other races is regrettably high as well. The fear of invasion from the south has long molded policy in the Republic and actions south of the border are brutal, unflinching and seen as a necessity. Citizenship of Texas belongs to those who are of European ancestry, as the widely believed founders were meant to be. Citizenship of one of the Territories, especially Louisiana and the city of N’Awlins, is open to all except the poor discriminated Latinos. The Louisiana Territories have a high proportion of Black and ethnically mixed residents which is unique in the Texican Republic.
The Republic was always primarily an agrarian society with several centres of technological and industrial excellence. More recently major efforts have been undertaken to re-develop the oil industry with the extraction and refining of petroleum returning to Texas. The towns of Beaumont and Port Arthur have become wealthy on oil extraction and refining while other towns like Kilgore, Odessa and Midland are rival production centres. Texicans are very fond of their firearms and the Republic put major resources in to maintain and developing it armament industry. Client states and settlements are often keen to acquire Texican weaponry and the Republic strives to keep as many surviving pre-collapse armoured vehicles and aircraft operational as is possible.
The Texican Militia
All men who are physically and mentally capable are required by law to register for service with the militia. Failure to do so is a crime punishable by hard labour or even, in repeat offenses, execution. A proportion of each year’s militia will be called upon to serve the Republic as part of the standing army. Failure to register for the militia is seen as a sign of weakness and exemptions from duty must be authorised by official documentation issued by the Daughters of the Texican Republic. Men who are not or have not been registered for militia duty may not own property within the Republic and are often seen as ‘yella’ by their peers. A successful completion of active duty within the militia is the first step in pursuing a political career.
“Courage is being scared to death, but saddling up anyway.” - President-General John Wayne-Bobbitt
The Texican Expeditionary Forces
While the Lone Star State is now fully, well mostly, recovered by the Republic the lands outside are equally still a danger and an opportunity to the Texicans. To influence and to a degree control their neighbours training cadres are sent out to aid and develop allies. These prestigious units are supplied with the best equipment available and are a magnet for ambitiously minded Texicans.
The Fighting Third has been assigned to aid Tennessee to help block expansion of the ARC over the Smokey Mountains with a good degree of success. Using the Invisible Empire as their proxies they have forced the ARC out of Knox (Knoxville) and back to the mountains.

Texas ‘Lone Star’ Rangers
A state wide paramilitary police force tasked with maintaining law and order within the Republic. While each town may have its own sheriff the Rangers outrank them all. No job is too tough nor task too arduous for these dedicated men. In fact the Rangers are such a part of the Republic that it is illegal and treasonous to attempt their disbandment. Ten years ago the failed attempt by President ‘Yankee’ George Harrison Bush-Walmart to abolish the Rangers, and incidentally give citizenship to Latinos, led to his execution for treason.

Daughters of the Texican Republic
This esteemed body of upstanding women oversees educational and medical facilities with the Republic. Membership is by recommendation and invitation only with the bulk of ‘daughters’ able to trace their lineage back to, at least, the early days of the Texican Republic. They are led by the dedicated and highly respected Ms. Debbie ‘Bambi’ Benton-Woods who imposes her strict Christian and moral values on the daughters.
