Edison Seven and the Gadsden Co-Prosperity Region
In 2017 with warning of the coming collapse Noel Scent, CEO of Edison Inc., ordered the establishment of numerous Survival Facilities in the hope that some would weather the coming storm. Edison Seven was one of these facilities. Fort Grant was an Arizona State Prison for low risk inmates that was undergoing a refurbishment through a subsidiary of Edison in 2014. Just to the south of the prison was an abandoned airstrip called Angel’s Field.
Roberta Hernandez, the Edison Regional Manager, took the project seriously though not always believing in Noel Scent’s predictions. She purchased masses of supplies, tools and general resources and hired survivalist consultants along with a small cadre of security. Fort Grant soon became a huge stockpile of shipping containers, RVs and the like behind a double thick wall of ditch, security fences and guard towers. Angel’s Field was hurriedly made operational and a fence thrown around it as well.
Roberta Hernandez had her personnel department run an ‘exercise’ to identify the most suitable of local Edison Staff which was filtered down by including dependants. They were interviewed for potential lucrative relocation to a new Edison Facility and a short list made. Practical staff (such as engineers) were rated high than others such as sales or promotional staff.
As Tucson and the region was overrun by events Edison Seven became active with a thousand chosen employees and family members within it. The arrival of the Stands Anti-viral from Edison R&D inoculated the inhabitants and boosted their survival chances. Co-operation with the nearby Mount Graham International Observatory and the settlements of the Gila River Valley went well and Edison Seven expanded and grew over the years.
Over 90 years later Edison Seven is head of a thriving community that has become the Gadsden Co-Prosperity Region (GCR), or simply Gadsden, based in Southern Arizona. It has a sound technological base and production facilities but few territorial aspirations under its current elected senate. Chairperson Nikoli Leatherwood, a descendant of an Edison Seven warehouse man, leads the Gadsden Senate and the Neo-Liberals against a much more expansionist minority ‘Old Pueblo’ faction.
The Gadsden Defense Force (GDF) is a small well-equipped volunteer military with a cadre of locally produced vehicles and aircraft.
