Return to Fort Kaiser

It has been five days since the characters flew away from Fort Kaiser and Old New Mexico.  They return with a drugged and handcuffed ‘Matilda Green’ and some interesting news. Their Cessna 208 plane lands on the road airstrip which has been kept cleared for them and they notice a few changes.

There are two Texican army trucks parked outside of the Fort with four large khaki tents. The occupants include soldiers dressed in Texican uniforms but are wearing helmets in a rather Un-Texan way.  They are twenty  plus soldiers from the 3rd Mississippi Infantry, a unit from the Louisiana Territories in Texan service. They had garrisoned Jarilla Junction to the south but were sent north to assist the defence of Fort Kaiser and are led by a Captain Deuteronomy Blake.

There are also the ransomed hostages who are in the barracks in the fort after being returned early by the banditos in exchange for the promised weapons. The return was carried out by Lt. Willy Stafford-Loggs with the assistance of Miss Velma Norris-Carrington. The released hostages have been treated medically and are in good spirits though will need time to recover.

To the south of the fort there is a scene of construction taking place. A large number of labourers have been hired form Alamogordo and are hard at work renovating the old railroad depot. Two other groups are heading north and south along the long buried railroad but this only started a day or two ago. A cloth banner hangs over one of the better looking houses near the tracks announcing the “New El Paso and Northern Railroad Company”.  Four large trucks are parked next to the company headquarters. The workers and works are guarded by a group of newly hired Railroad Guards who look to be armed latinos.
